Red Cross shop in Civic

I may be a little late to the party, but did you know that there's a Red Cross shop in Garema Place, Civic?

I found it by accident while heading to The Green Shed's Garema Place shop to waste some time while waiting for a friend to finish work.

It's light and bright and well organised, with a 'boutique' feel to it to go with its inner-city location (and prices).

If you're in town it's worth checking out. You never know what you'll find...

Charity garage sale this weekend

The final Opportunity to Do Charity Garage Sale for 2015 will be held on Saturday 5 December from 7 am-12 pm at 5 O'Grady Place Wanniassa.

All adults' clothing reduced by 50% and there will be lots of other great bargains.

Browse through a huge range of baby, kids', adults' and household items, all at affordable prices.  Plenty of new items every month, including kids' & adults' clothing from just $1.50,  books for $2 or less, DVDs $2, CDs $1, kitchenware, toys, bric-a-brac and much, much more.

All proceeds go towards funding projects that promote sustainability and self-reliance in poor communities. 

This month funds raised will be used for a range of projects to be delivered by the four Charity Partners of the awareness campaign Walk to a Better World.  Opportunity to Do work with CARE, Oxfam, The Fred Hollows Foundation and Caritas to fund a number of projects in Africa that are community driven and create sustainable change in communities living below the poverty line.

Smith Family Goulburn closed this weekend

The Smith Family Goulburn will be closing at 3 pm this Friday (4 December) and will reopen at 11 am on Monday (7 December).

Interstate update

I had business in Goulburn last week and took the train, which left me a couple of hours to check the Goulburn op shops (which hadn't been updated on our spreadsheet since at least 2011).

A couple have disappeared (Does Anglicare still have an op shop in Goulburn? I couldn't find it...)

And Vinnies have moved: they're now at 136 Auburn Street, conveniently just down from the Red Cross shop.

Another Chance: final October sales

On Friday 30 October, Another Chance in Scullin will be holding their last Frantic Friday for the month - with 50% off all clothing.

Then on Saturday 31 October, they will have 50% off the price of everything excluding collectibles.

Renovation reveal

 Vinnies' Queanbeyan shop reopened this morning after its weekend renovation, and I Op was there to see what was new.

 We were given a tour of the changes by Queanbeyan Centre Manager Aaron McNeil, who had dressed up for the occasion, in a tail coat*.

Aaron's background as part of the Melbourne IKEA management team informed the redesign of the shop. 'Not only can we fit in 40% more stock than we used to be able to with the old design, which is great for our shoppers' he told us, 'but we now have the ability to rearrange the shop quickly to reflect stock levels and shopping trends'.

There are still a few finishing touches which need to be added, like signage and some displays, plus Aaron is hoping to have the shop repainted sometime soon.

But the shop is definitely lighter, brighter and easier to navigate.

 

Vinnies Queanbeyan is at 130 Monaro Street (free parking in the carpark behind) and is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm, and Saturday 9 am to 3 pm.

(*Not really, he tells us he has four of them that he wears regularly. Also, what is it with Vinnies Managers and amazing fashion sense?)

Next Charity Garage Sale

The Charity Garage Sale is on again on Saturday 7 November, 7 am-12 pm at 5 O'Grady Place Wanniassa.

Browse through a huge range of baby, kids, adult and household items, all at affordable prices.  Plenty of new items every month, including kids’ clothes from just $1.50, adult clothing from $2.50, books for $2 or less, DVDs $2, CDs $1, kitchenware, toys, bric-a-brac and much, much more.

All proceeds go towards funding projects that promote sustainability and self-reliance in poor communities.  This month funds are going to set up a pre-school in rural Malawi, Africa.  Once established the pre-school will be completely sustainable from charging a small fee of approximately $2 per month per child.  Along with a safe place and early access to education, the children will also receive a nutritious meal once a day.
