Official launch and a giveaway

Welcome to I op therefore I am - ACT, a collaborative blog about op shopping in Canberra, ACT and surrounds (Queanbeyan and Yass) - let everyone know about the treasure you've found, alert the world to that Akira Isogawa dress that didn't quite fit, and check out where you can get your op shop fix on a Sunday.

To celebrate the launch of the blog I'm giving away a copy of the excellent Creative homes: Inside the private worlds of Australia's style makers which I found at Y's buys for $3 recently:Leave a comment on this post to go into the draw to win. I'll pick the winner at noon, Saturday 15th November and will post the book to you (or a person of your choice) anywhere in the world. Good luck!

Great to see a blog about Canberra op shops. I lived there in the 70's/early 80's and had a favourite (think it was in Curtin) where you went downstairs into a huge op shop.
I have cousins in Narrabundah who contributed to my op shop zine 'Second Hand Rose' some years ago.
Would love to spend a few days in Canberra doing a crawl around the oppies.
Good luck with the blog.

Thanks for the comment. Alas Vinnies at Curtin is no more but Lawtons moved into the space so at least it's still secondhand in some way...

Hello TSS. yes I would love to be a part of your blog. My favourity op shop - well it is actually not an op shop - it is C and G Auctions on twice a month. You can find informtion at www.candgauctions.com.au . There is an auction on tomorrow - and I need to take a "voice of reason" with me, because there are lots and lots, and lots of dolls there!

OOOOooooo! It sure is, its open Friday/Saturday from 10 til 1. Fridays are usually better as there is a lot more stuff but it really depends on what you are looking for!! You cant miss it...theres always a mannequin (of sorts) out on the street!

Looking forward to this blog taking off - there's nothing like inside goss on the good stuff :)

I always try my best to make it to the YMCA yarralumla garage sale. Not quite an op shop, but the size makes up for it! They throw one every few months and usually have a great range of furniture and clothes for bargain prices ($1 for a bag stuffed with all the clothes you like? yes, please!) http://85.234.143.212/~ymcacanb/index.php?mode=Garage_Sales has the contact details...
